History

A dive into history

Most Common Style of Saree Draping originated in Andhra Pradesh, called Nivi style

Sari described in Sanskrit à¤¶à¤¾à¤Ÿà¥€ which means 'strip of cloth'

Sari is traced back to the Indus Valley Civilisation, during 2800–1800 BC

Sari's are not only warm in winter and cool in summer, but its loose-fitting is preferred by women who must be free to move. For this reason, it is the clothing of choice of air hostesses on Air India.

Weaving Process

  • A hand-loom saree is often woven on a shuttle-pit loom made from ropes, wooden beams and poles.

  • The shuttle is thrown from side-to-side by the weaver.

  • Other weavers use a fly-shuttle loom which can produce different types of patterns.

  • The sarees can vary in size and quality.

  • The hand-loom sarees are made from silk or cotton threads.

  • Most of the activities are now outsourced.
